94% of Tajikistan is mountainous. With neighboring countries like Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, China, and its proximity to Pakistan, Tajikistan is a melting pot. Various cultures, religions, and religious groups converge in this country. Officially, 99% of the population identifies as Muslim. However, there are also Christians in this country who, regardless of the difficulties they face, remain true to their faith and strive to be a beacon of hope for those around them.
How hard will this winter be? For people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, this is the all-important question. Exploding energy prices and rapid inflation are presenting many people with existential problems, especially the weakest in society: widows, single mothers, children. Often without state support, with pensions that are far too small, defenceless and lonely, many wonder how they can go on. But God has promised His help for widows and orphans! There are 600 kilometers between Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, and the city of Khorog in the Pamirs. Those who have made the journey in winter over snow-covered, impassable roads with falling rocks and avalanches find themselves in the mountain world of the Pamirs, but also in a region of Tajikistan threatened by tension and conflict. A border river and no more than 300 meters separate it from Afghanistan, and the white flags of the Taliban are clearly visible from here...
The news reached us yesterday evening from our brothers in the community of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Heavy rains had triggered a landslide in the Pamirs yesterday, with a huge avalanche of debris and mud falling into the valley. Several houses of Shujand were buried or destroyed. It is almost impossible to get through the meter-high masses of rubble. The power supply is interrupted.
