So that children hear about Jesus

"What was Jesus actually killed for?" – I was sitting with the girls from my group that evening when eleven-year-old Amira* surprised me with her question. She had sat down next to me and waited anxiously for my answer. There was a reason for her interest...

Amira's father is a secret disciple of Jesus. He came to faith in Jesus a few years ago, but because his family lives strictly according to Islamic principles, he hasn't yet told his relatives that he believes in Jesus. However, he reads God's Word, prays, and tells his children stories from the Bible – secretly, so that his parents and brothers don't find out. Only Amira's mother knows about this, but she doesn't betray him because she sees how much her husband has changed for the better. During our summer camp, Amira heard every day about this Jesus in whom her father believes.

That's why she wanted to know more, and her question was deeply sincere. I took my time and explained the Gospel to her, from beginning to end. As I spoke, more and more children joined us, and with each sentence, the excitement that radiated from Amira's eyes grew. The other children also began to ask questions. With the same sincere directness with which Amira had asked me about Jesus' death, she now said: "I feel sorry for Jesus. He didn't do anything bad to anyone. He is so good, and I would like to accept him into my heart!"

I couldn't help but suggest to the children that we pray together. I was able to say a prayer for each of the children who gathered around me that evening. It was a wonderful moment I will never forget. I am so grateful to God that He provides such opportunities to put the gospel into children's hearts
